It is so exciting when you think about the next step and moving in with your boyfriend/girlfriend. You love each-other, you live in each-others pockets and spend your nights sleeping over anyway, so it’s basically the same thing as living together right?! WRONG! Here are 7 things that definitely happen when you move in with your partner…whether you were expecting them or not!
1.     There are WAY more weird quirks than you realised
When you spend so much time together, there can’t possibly be anything else that you need to know about each-other right? Well, I suppose it is really easy to believe that… until you move in with someone! Everyone has weird quirks that you don’t tend to notice when you don’t live with someone - for example, their need to switch the kettle off at the wall after EVERY use, leaving the hangers on the bed or leaving crumbs on the side after making a sandwich. All these things you don’t need to deal with when you don’t live with someone but I promise you, they are so much more irritating when you need to pick up after someone.
2.     Sharing a bed is no longer a novel thing
Yay sleepovers every day I hear you cry! Sure, most of the time it is great to cuddle up with your loved one after a long day… except for in a heatwave or if like me, you ALWAYS have cold feet (sorry babe…) One of you is ill? Oh lovely, I can’t wait to listen to you sneeze and cough the entire night. Few too many drinks? Lovely, your snoring is exactly what I need to make me fall asleep…!! If you have a spare room, this makes life so much easier – I now have a rule that if my boyfriend is coming home from a night out past midnight he has to go in there (again, sorry babe…)
3.     When sitting watching TV no longer counts as date night…
Remember when a date night could easily be going to each-others house, ordering rubbish food and watching a good film? Yeah, that doesn’t really count anymore when you live together! It is great to sit and watch Netflix together and binge eat on Sundays but you will learn you need to plan in actual date nights too. Book a date once a week if you can! It doesn’t need to be expensive either… if your partner always does the cooking, surprise them and make dinner one night (hint hint…) or make a ‘date’ jar full of loads of fun things you can do together.
4.     You will literally see your partner at their worst! (Fake Tan Thursdays, I’m looking at you!)
Up until now, your boyfriend/girlfriend won’t have seen the very worst of you. Yes, they will have seen you poorly, without makeup, first thing in the morning or even putting on a few pounds but when you live together it is a whole new level. You know when you come downstairs after fake-tanning? That probably terrified your boyfriend the first time. Got a stomach bug or horrendous hangover? You now share a bathroom with your loved one. But hey, if they still love you after seeing all the hideous sides to you then you’ve got a keeper!
5.     You both develop obsessions with TV shows you can’t watch without the other one
Living together means a shared TV which is great because you get into programmes together. If you have a boyfriend, I promise you he will get into your girly programmes… Love Island, Obsessive Compulsive Cleaners… However, I can’t promise you will start to love football but you learn to tolerate it. The main problem with sharing TV shows though is you can’t break the trust and watch something without them, if you do, you will have to watch it again. DON’T BREAK THE TRUST!
6.     You will divide and conquer all the different house jobs
Changing the bins? Cleaning? Hoovering? Changing the sheets? Food shopping? All these things will be divided between you. I don’t mean you will literally make a spreadsheet of jobs but over time, you will eventually realise what is what. For example, now I just shout out – bins need changing and I automatically go food shopping every week but we never decided we would do that. You will have designated spider/bug catcher (not me) as well as a dedicated DIY person (me)!
7.     Your best friend will always be there

Despite everything, your best friend will always be right there. You will have even more ‘inside jokes’ than ever before and always have someone to rant too. You will have silly fights about who forgot to buy the toilet roll or milk (not me, I don’t drink it J) but it will also make you realise what things are worth arguing about. Aslong as you always do what you promise to do, learn to compromise and learn to love (or tolerate…) each-others weird habits, having your favourite person there every day is the best!

What have you found happens when you move in with someone?!
